– subject to change) Friday, July 8, 2005 ALRAcademy (July 8-10, 2005) ALRAcademy is a training and orientation program for newly or relatively newly appointed board members, commissioners, general counsels, executive directors and senior staff to federal state, or provincial labor relations entities. The Academy will open on Friday evening with a dinner and a welcoming presentation and will continue through Sunday morning. Substantive sessions include Becoming a Neutral, Unfair Labor Practices, Representation Cases and Mediation Concepts. There will be plenty of time for the usual animated discussion and interaction. The Academy experience is always highly valued by the attendees. The Academy is offered free of charge, but participants must apply for admission. provide practical training in Decision Writing and Editing and emphasize the
strategies and techniques that help produce clear, concise, and effective legal
writing. The sessions will be conducted
by a writing consultant for professionals whose past ALRA training sessions

Public School Districts in Washington State, Gary Fane, Director of Transportation, Canadian Auto
Workers, and Ken Latsch, Operations Manager, Washington State PERC. A panel comprised of an
experienced management negotiator for public school districts, an experienced
negotiator for the Canadian Auto Workers Union, and an experienced mediator
from the Washington State PERC in a session designed to provide the
participants with an understanding of the different challenges presented when
mediation occurs in an atmosphere of concession bargaining and the techniques
that may facilitate an agreement by the parties. 3:15-5:00 Mediation in Traditional Bargaining: The Basics Moderator: Liz MacPherson, Director General, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, Labour ProgramPresenter: Rick L.
