ALRA Conference, Seattle, Washington

July 9 – 13, 2005

Welcome to Washington: The Evergreen State!

The ALRA 2005 Arrangements Committee has planned the following optional events to give you a truly unforgettable Northwest experience! We encourage you to visit www.ci.seattle.wa.us/html/visitor/ and plan your Seattle vacation around the ALRA conference. The following is a description of the optional events and any associated costs.

Saturday, July 9

Welcoming Reception for First Time Attendees

Hospitality Suite - 5:00 p.m.

First time delegates are invited to join the ALRA executive board and committee chairs in the sumptuous Penthouse Suite, featuring a walk-out balcony with a panoramic view of the gorgeous Seattle waterfront and Olympic mountains, for refreshments and an orientation to the conference. (There is no charge for this event).

Saturday, July 9

Welcoming Reception for Delegates

Olympic Ballroom - 6:00 p.m.

Please join us in the breathtaking Olympic Ballroom, also overlooking the waterfront for the opening reception. Renew old friendships and meet new conference delegates while enjoying drinks and an appetizing array of food, which will, of course, include some Northwest seafood favorites! (No charge for delegates / $45 US or $60 Canadian per guest).

Sunday, July 10

The Ultimate Native American Experience

Tillicum Village Dinner and Show - 5:300 p.m.

Tillicum Village on Blake Island typifies the Northwest.  Cruise Puget Sound over to the island and enjoy magnificent views, wildlife, fresh salmon and Native American dancing.  Tillicum Village has been sharing Northwest traditions since 1962.  Its name, “Tillicum,” comes from the Chinook jargon meaning “friendly people.”  Along with an award-winning, traditionally baked salmon dinner, guests are treated to a magical stage production, arts and crafts demonstrations and given an opportunity to explore the island’s many hiking trails and beaches.  (The cost is $75 US per person or $95 Canadian)

Tuesday, July 12

Please choose either the golf game OR the winery/alehouse tour OR the underground tour.

Tuesday, July 12

ALRA Golf Game

Nile Golf and Country Club

Departs from the Hotel at noon

Please join us for an afternoon of golf at the beautiful semi-private Nile Golf and Country Club north of Seattle. This tree-lined masterpiece allows you to relax and enjoy nature at its best. The fairways are rolling and generous, with fast and challenging greens.  The slightly hilly course adjusts the degree of difficulty to make the course playable for golfers of all skill levels. The cost of this event includes 18 holes of golf, box lunch, the shared use of a golf cart and transportation to and from the Hotel. Golf club rentals are available and you are asked to check the appropriate box on the registration form if you wish to rent clubs. (The cost, without club rental, is $65 US or $85 Canadian per person).

Tuesday, July 12

Winery and Alehouse Tour

Departs from the Hotel at 12:30 p.m.

Tour the world famous Chateau Ste. Michelle winery and taste their wonderful wines in the Chateau’s tasting room.  Just across the street is the Columbia winery, where you will have another opportunity to sample award winning Washington wines. Next stop is the nearby Red Hook Alehouse where you can see a micro-brewery in action.  (The cost is $25 US or $35 CD and includes transportation to and from the hotel and tasting at all three locations, reserve tasting maybe additional cost.)

Tuesday, July 12

The Seattle Underground Tour

Departs from the Hotel at 12:30 p.m.

While you roam the subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, Tour Guides regale you with humorous stories our pioneers didn’t want you to hear. It’s history with a twist!  The tour begins with a seated introduction inside Doc Maynard’s Public House, a restored 1890s saloon. Then you walk outside through historic Pioneer Square to three different sections of Underground—about three blocks in all. Wear walking shoes as the ground is uneven in places. (The cost is $15 US or $20 CD per person, includes tour guide and transportation on the waterfront trolley).

Wednesday, July 13

Closing Banquet

Olympic Ballroom - 6:00 p.m.

The conference will conclude in the spectacular Olympic Ballroom, for a final opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Seattle waterfront and Olympic Mountains. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6:00 and will feature fine food and entertainment. Come enjoy the camaraderie of your ALRA colleagues for the last time for another year. (No charge for delegates / $80 US or $100 Canadian per guest).
